Overview
Discover a career in HMRC. This role sits within Finance, Portfolio, Performance and Organisational Transformation (FPPOT) and covers the full remit of the Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) teams. The briefing team prepares briefings for the Director General – including discussion points for meetings and drafts of submissions to Permanent Secretaries or Ministers. The team works flexibly with a mix of core products and ad-hoc briefing support.
The CDIO Group is responsible for HMRC\’s IT estate, building and running IT services, leading digital transformation projects, and providing operational support to colleagues and customers. The live services enable billions of pounds of tax to be collected, benefits to be paid, and the smooth movement of goods into and out of the UK. We are trusted to deliver to a high standard to support the department and its customers.
Responsibilities
- Draft high-quality communications products including Quarterly Business Reviews, Business Planning and Commitments.
- Understand key data sources and systems and use them to prepare and assure figures for briefings and public reporting.
- Collaborate with lines of business to inform briefing lines and ensure consistency of messages across the Director General Private Office and Planning and Performance Team.
- Lead on core briefing products, and support colleagues with their briefing requests and ad-hoc needs.
- Take an active approach to personal development and contribute to building a high-performing team and directorate.
- Support and mentor colleagues in the team and the business.

Essential Criteria
- Experience within a communications or briefing role.
- Experience drafting for a range of senior audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build an effective network and to provide support and informal mentoring to colleagues.
- Ability to work well to short deadlines and respond quickly to commissions.

- Salary: £45,544 with Civil Service Pension contributions (defined benefit).
