HMPPS Youth Custody Service (YCS) Psychology Services are currently recruiting a Senior Registered Psychologist to be based within Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC: Milton-Keynes), which accommodates both boys and girls remanded or sentenced to custody. With approximately 350 children in custody across England and Wales, YCS Psychology Services work across the whole spectrum of complex needs of this population as part of a trauma‑informed approach. Practice is integrated across all partner agencies with an enduring focus on the best interests of the child.
YCS Psychology Services are integral to delivering evidence‑based practice and contribute to national consultancy projects, including an Interventions Model and staff training and development programmes. Senior psychologists line‑manage and supervise the practice of other staff, including trainee psychologists, and collaborate closely with the wider HMPPS Psychology Services Group to support CPD and career progression across the custodial estate. Full training and support will be provided, and experience working with children involved in the youth justice system is desirable. Motivation, resilience and a commitment to this complex yet rewarding young population are essential. All suitably qualified interested parties are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities- Line‑manage and supervise staff, including trainee psychologists.
- Deliver evidence‑based psychological services to children in custody.
- Support the development and implementation of national intervention models and training programmes.
- Ensure a trauma‑informed approach across all service delivery.
- Provide clinical supervision and contribute to professional development across the custodial estate.
- Registered psychologist with the British Psychological Society.
- Chartered psychologist and full member of the appropriate BPS division.
- Minimum 18 months post‑registration experience (ideally two years).
- Experience in providing clinical supervision.
- Completed training in effective treatment models and best practice.

Salary: £57,398 with HM Prison & Probation Service contributing £16,628 to the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
