Overview

This operational role is based in East Sussex covering the Hastings and Eastbourne offices. The position is full‑time (37‑hour week) with flexible start times (7:00 AM) and a finish of 4:45 PM, including weekend shifts. Candidates must hold a full UK Manual Driving Licence. A fixed base location is required with travel allowance for visits to other offices within the region.

Responsibilities, Activities & Duties

  • Conduct Pre‑Placement Unpaid Work Induction sessions.
  • Deliver a daily \'tool box\' talk to motivate service users and ensure safe working practice.
  • Follow work directions within the project placement file.
  • Maintain Health & Safety procedures, filing risk assessments accurately and on time.
  • Ensure appropriate tools, equipment and supplies are available and used safely by service users.
  • Conduct dynamic risk assessments to manage hazards.
  • Use pro‑social and motivational techniques to ensure disciplined completion of assigned work.
  • Monitor attendance of service users allocated to placements and promote successful completions.
  • Maintain all service users\' records in the case management system in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Work towards accreditation as a workplace assessor or deliver training assessments for selected service users.
  • Contribute towards promoting Community Payback with colleagues, external agencies, Sentencers and the public.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Full UK Manual Driving Licence (automatic licence only is not acceptable).
  • Valid driving licence and ability to drive service vehicles.
  • Experience or aptitude for working with people on probation and supporting rehabilitation.
  • Strong communication and motivational skills.

Behaviours & Selection Process

Behaviours assessed during selection: Communicating and Influencing, Managing a Quality Service, Working Together and Leadership. The selection uses the Success Profiles system and will assess behaviours, strengths and experience. Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check and baseline personnel security standard checks.

Benefits & Working Conditions

Civil Service pension with an employer contribution of 28.97%; annual leave, public holidays and season ticket advance. Flexible working options are available and weekend shifts are paid at a higher rate. The starting salary is £26,475, with annual pay progression through a Competency Based Framework (CBF) where eligible. The role involves driving and may require weekend working as part of the normal pattern.
