Job Overview
As a prison officer you will be the frontline of the criminal justice system. Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining the safety and security of the prison and its people.
- Preventing breaches of prison rules and controlling behaviour through positive engagement.
- Providing support and supervision to prisoners and their families.
- Responding to incidents, emergencies, and public safety situations.
- Collaborating with colleagues and external agencies to deliver a high quality service.

Assessment Process
The recruitment process will include the following stages:
- Stage 1 – Online numerical and judgement test.
- Stage 2 – Online task‑based assessment measuring behaviours and natural qualities.
- Online Assessment Centre – Face‑to‑face interview and behavioural scenarios.
- Medical and fitness assessment covering eyesight, hearing and general health.
Salary and Benefits
- Annual salary ranges from £33,746 for 37 hours a week to £38,003 for 41 hours a week.
- 25 days of annual holiday (rising to 30 days after 10 years of service).
- Paid public holiday allowance plus one extra privilege day.
- Contributory Civil Service pension scheme.
