HM Land Registry are looking for Data Architects to join a growing data capability, supporting the delivery of major transformation programmes across the organisation. This role sits at the centre of how data is structured, governed and used across a large and complex organisation, supporting the delivery of digital services and ongoing transformation.

About role

HM Land Registry (HMLR) is continuing a major transformation programme, with a clear ambition to become the world’s leading land registry for speed, simplicity and an open approach to data. This role sits at the centre of how HMLR manages and uses data across its services. You will be working across a complex and evolving data landscape, helping to shape how data is structured, governed and used to support both operational services and long‑term transformation. You will operate across both business and technical areas, working with architecture, engineering and data teams to ensure that data is consistent, well‑governed and aligned to organisational standards. The role involves supporting the definition of data strategy, contributing to design decisions and ensuring that data architecture is applied consistently across systems and services.

About you

You will have experience working with data in a technical or analytical environment, with an understanding of data modelling, governance and data management practices. You will be confident working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, helping to shape data strategies and ensuring alignment with organisational standards. You will be able to undertake data impact assessments, analyse source systems and data flows, and present clear insights to support effective decision‑making. You will also be comfortable working within established architectural frameworks, applying patterns and principles to solve business problems.

Responsibilities

  • Working with the Architecture, Data Management and Software Engineering Practices to ensure data architecture is in accordance with the agency’s strategies.
  • Taking part in technical and business design authorities in order to approve their vision for data.
  • Making sure that systems are designed, upgraded, managed, de‑commissioned and archived in compliance with data policy across the full data life cycle.
  • Recommending, developing, implementing, and maintaining processes, standards and best practices to promote and protect the confidentiality, availability and integrity of structured and unstructured data in HM Land Registry.
  • Performing root cause analysis on data and service problems and recommends corrective action to improve data quality.

Essential skills

  • Strong stakeholder communication skills, ability to work across technical and non‑technical teams.
  • Experience in data profiling, source system analysis and presenting insights to support data use.
  • Understanding of data governance and assurance, ensure compliance and make recommendations.
  • Knowledge of data modelling principles, including creating, maintaining and updating data models.
  • Experience working with data standards and policies ensuring effective data management and integration.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify trends, resolve issues and implement improvements.
  • Ability to contribute to data architecture and design decisions, working within established frameworks and aligning solutions to business needs.

Location

Expectation is to be working from any of the advertised locations 60% of your time across the month (typically 3 days/week), hours are flexible and condensed hours are an option. Locations available: Birkenhead, Croydon, Coventry, Durham, Weymouth, Gloucester, Kingston upon Hull, Leicester, Nottingham, Peterborough, Plymouth, Warton, Swansea, Telford.
