Responsibilities

  • Leading on the monitoring and analysis of availability and performance of the HMLR IT infrastructure and delivered IT services using various toolsets. Liaising with lead infrastructure engineers and subject matter experts from IT Operations, Service Management and Development practices where appropriate.
  • Maintaining, managing and enhancing IT service and infrastructure monitoring using the appropriate toolset following best practice solution design.
  • Performing retrospective reporting on IT services and infrastructure to produce performance and capacity reports for IT operations stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Raising awareness of service or hardware issues with lead infrastructure engineers, subject matter experts and senior stakeholders, to ensure early identification of issues which could develop into significant problems across all technical assets.
  • Tuning performance monitoring and capacity management toolsets to provide optimum detection and alerting in-line with HMLRs service level and availability targets.
  • Providing technical advice and guidance to the team and wider technical community on a range of performance and capacity related topics.
  • Engaging with project teams to provide performance monitoring and capacity support for new and existing services.
  • Working with key IT partners and suppliers to develop, test and implement innovative solutions, ensuring that the most effective technology is used to meet business requirements, with particular emphasis on the technical and procedural implications of the Agency’s expanding digital services.
  • Acting as a reference point for those technical areas covered by the team, and to dispose personally of complex technical points arising on operational service incidents or strategic IT development projects as required.
  • Providing clear communication of how own teams’ work impacts other technical areas, end users and stakeholders.
  • Providing effective management of conflict and non-inclusive behaviour within the technical team.
  • Performing as a technical and behavioural role model within the IT Operations Practice and associated areas.
  • Contributing to the continual improvement of the practice and the IT Operations community, supporting community members to build and maintain cohesion.

Person Specification

To be successful in this role you will hold a qualification in Information Technology or a related area (Degree level or equivalent) or significant experience in an IT field.

Key Knowledge and Experience

  • Technical hardware and services monitoring, reporting, analysis and problem solving.
  • SAS data analytics software.
  • IBM Mainframe, Windows Server or similar enterprise hardware solutions.
  • IT Service Management ISO20000 standard and implementation across a mature IT function.

Essential Experience

  • Within an IT service and hardware monitoring and reporting environment or team.
  • Design and implementation of enterprise-wide service and hardware monitoring and reporting.
  • Problem resolution through the identification of issues by performance monitoring.
  • Using formal processes to apply best practice.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage a technical team and lead on team tasks and solution implementation.
  • Strong leadership demonstrated through coaching or mentoring.

A minimum of 30 hours per week will be required.
