Role Description
Team Leaders play a critical role in helping deliver justice. You will demonstrate and develop your leadership skills, ensuring your team delivers excellent administrative support and customer service to service users, judiciary and management.
About Us
HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is an agency of the Ministry of Justice responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Our National Services manage centralised administrative and contact functions (telephone helpdesks) in HMCTS. We are looking for individuals who are committed to public service and making a difference in people’s lives to deliver justice.
Your Role
- Lead your team, prioritise and organise work, and ensure the team is fully skilled to meet objectives.
- Recognise the importance of the team’s wellbeing and motivate your team to succeed.
- Contribute to the delivery of operational, performance and service standard targets and provide statistical data for the management team, mediators and judiciary.
- Monitor and analyse performance areas and trends, review procedures and practices, and recommend improvements.
- Navigate change and manage the implementation of new initiatives and legislation.
This is a challenging and rewarding role key to the smooth running of operational functions throughout HMCTS. We offer leadership development through the HMCTS leadership offer, including development programmes and bite-size guides to help you lead, guide and inspire others.

Further Details
New recruits to the Civil Service joining MoJ are expected to join at the band minimum. These operational roles are customer-facing and office-based to provide HMCTS services to the public. Standard full-time hours are 37 per week (Monday to Friday). HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns, subject to the role and business needs. The minimum working hours per week for this role are 20.
Occasional Travel
Occasional travel to other National Services sites may be required.
Visa and Right to Work
This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas. From 22 July 2025, changes to the Skilled Worker visa route apply. If you have held a Skilled Worker visa previously, eligibility will be assessed during vetting checks. If you have not held a Skilled Worker visa before the changes, you should consider your options for obtaining or maintaining the right to work in the UK. You must have and maintain the legal right to live and work in the Civil Service and the United Kingdom. The Department will comply with UK Immigration Rules.
Working Arrangements & Benefits
The MoJ offers Hybrid Working where possible. This is informal, non-contractual flexible working blending base location, other MoJ sites and/or home. A minimum of 60% of working time is expected in an office, subject to local capacity. Some roles may not be suitable for Hybrid Working; arrangements are discussed and agreed with the successful candidate. Nationally advertised roles will be appointed to the nearest viable office to home postcode, on its pay scale. For current MoJ employees, base location may be changed accordingly. MoJ terms and conditions are subject to Civil Service reform where applicable. Flexible working patterns are considered in line with the MoJ Flexible Working policy.
