Role Summary

You are responsible for ensuring your team delivers excellent administrative support and customer service to service users, judiciary and management.

Your Organisation

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales, along with non-devolved tribunals in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Our roles support our service users and colleagues within HMCTS, helping people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice. We are looking for individuals committed to public service and making a difference in people’s lives.

Your Role

Leading your team, you will provide outstanding service to all our users, delivering on your area of work against local, regional and national priorities. As a Team Leader, you will recognise the importance of the team’s wellbeing, motivate them to succeed, create a sense of purpose, recognise successes and manage performance to deliver results and business outcomes. You will develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including the judiciary.

Essential Knowledge, Skills And Experience

  • Ability to lead and develop others to have the skills, confidence and experience to thrive in their role.
  • Strong organisational skills to prioritise, plan, allocate and manage work to deliver outstanding service.
  • Excellent communication skills. Able to establish and maintain trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Able to manage difficult and challenging situations and resolve problems swiftly and professionally.
  • Confident in analysing data to make informed decisions to improve and maintain performance.
  • Ability to use IT and learn new systems.

From bite-sized learning and interactive workshops to deeper insights through our Accountability & Decision-Making framework, you will be equipped to lead with impact, inspire your teams, and drive performance across the organisation.

Further Details

New recruits to the Civil Service joining MoJ are expected to join at the band minimum. These operational roles are customer facing, requiring successful applicants to be office based to provide HMCTS services to the public. Standard full-time working hours are 37 hours per week. MoJ welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, and will consider them in accordance with the Flexible Working policy. Where part-time working is considered, the minimum hours would be 30 hours per week over 4 days, with Monday or Friday unavailable as non-working days.

Location: Although based in Glasgow, regular travel between venues across Scotland (including Dundee, Aberdeen, and Inverness) will be required on at least a quarterly basis.

Visa and right to work: The Department cannot sponsor for this role unless specific criteria are met. Successful applicants must ensure the legal right to live and work in the Civil Service and the United Kingdom.

Interviews and Selection

Requests for virtual interviews and alternate dates will be considered in exceptional circumstances or as part of a reasonable adjustment. Interviews are expected to be in week commencing 2nd March 2026. Behavioural and technical assessments will be used as part of the selection process, including Leadership and Decision-Making capabilities and a DBS Basic check where applicable.

Working Arrangements & Benefits

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where the role requires, with a minimum 60% in an office. Some roles may not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Flexible hours and part-time options are considered in line with policy. Benefits include annual leave, pension options, training and development, and access to staff networks and flexible benefits. There are also family-friendly policies and support for mobility within the Civil Service.
