Applications are invited for the position of Part-time Senior Research Assistant (several posts) at the Social Sciences Research Centre (SSRC) within the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research Design: Collaborate on the design of qualitative research studies, including drafting interview guides, focus group protocols, and screening questionnaires.
  • Data Collection: Conduct one-on-one personal in-depth interviews and moderate focus groups, while assisting with participant recruitment and study logistics.
  • Data Analysis: Manage, code, and rigorously analyse qualitative data (transcripts, field notes) using relevant software.
  • Reporting & Synthesis: Draft high-quality reports and presentations that translate complex qualitative data into actionable insights. Partner with the quantitative team to combine research results and deliver comprehensive, mixed-methods insights.
  • Project Support: Conduct literature reviews and ensure all data collection complies with research ethics and Institutional Review Board standards. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: Master's degree or higher with at least 1 year's experience or a Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years' experience, preferably in a social science discipline (e.g., Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Public Policy, or related).
  • Qualitative Experience: Proven track record of independently designing, implementing, and analysing qualitative research, specifically using in-depth interviews and focus groups.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in at least one major qualitative data analysis software package (e.g., NVivo, ATLAS.ti, MAXQDA, Dedoose).
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to synthesize large volumes of unstructured data, identify patterns, and extract meaningful themes.
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills to build rapport with diverse participants, combined with excellent writing skills for drafting professional reports.
  • Work Style: Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple project phases both independently and collaboratively.

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on a temporary hourly-paid basis for 1 year, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding availability.
