The London Metal Exchange is the world centre for industrial metals trading. Most of the world's non-ferrous metals business is conducted on the LME and the metals community uses the LME, a member of HKEX Group, as a venue to transfer or take on price risk, as a physical market of last resort and as the provider of transparent global reference prices.
The Sustainability and Physical Markets team ("SPM") is responsible for the strategy, delivery, and operation of the LME's physical market and sustainability activity. This incorporates:
- the strategic development of all areas of the LME's physical ecosystem including future commercialisation, sustainability, overall management of physical market relationships including producers of LME-listed brands,
- the operation of the LME's physical network including LME warehousing, operation of the LME approved brands list, and LME responsible sourcing, and
- the operation of the systems that support and deliver this work and management of all related regulatory requirements including operational resilience.
This role sits in SPM Operations providing operational, analytical and administrative support across the management of LME-listed brands. Key responsibilities include supporting the end-to-end brand listing process, including:
- Administering and supporting brand applications from initial start-up to finalisation, evaluating applications and providing feedback relating to the LME's requirements.
- Ensuring ongoing compliance with LME brand listing requirements, including ISOs, Responsible Sourcing, LMEpassport, and chemical and physical specifications.
- Resolving and responding to warehousing and warranting issues relating to LME-listed brands, including co-ordinating with the Warehousing team on any issues arising.
- Resolving and processing matters relating to existing LME-listed brands, guiding producers through relevant processes in accordance with LME requirements.
- Supporting the day-to-day operations of SPM Operations, assisting with stakeholder engagement, reviewing compliance submissions, and contributing to the development, formatting, and maintenance of internal process materials that support the effective functioning and delivery of the team.
- Contributing to the maintenance and monitoring of LMEpassport, LMEsword, and Salesforce.
- Supporting engagement with producers in relation to LMEpassport submissions, supporting the review, validation, and refinement of data with platform expectations.
- Ongoing monitoring of the LME Listed Sampler and Assayer and Tester lists.
- Taking on responsibilities for new operational requirements as they develop over time.
- Being a proactive and positive member of the SPM team, representing the team at internal events (and external as relevant).
- Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of digital files and records on multiple internal databases.
Academic and professional qualifications required: To A level standard.
Required knowledge and level of experience: A good understanding of the LME and the wider financial services and/or commodities environment would be advantageous. Previous knowledge or experience within the metals industry, particularly within an exchange, commodities or related financial services environment, would be highly desirable. An understanding of the LME's role within the global metals markets and the regulatory, commercial and operational landscape in which it operates would be considered a strong asset.
