As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will ensure the successful financial delivery and completion of projects, protecting the exposure of the Company to financial risks, together with adherence to the commercial procedures of the Business. With the expanding growth of our Manchester office, the Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial management of a variety of sized projects, offering commercial expertise for both our main contracts and small works divisions, with current project values varying between £100k and £4m. This role will suit someone who has recently graduated with a degree in Quantity Surveying or is due to graduate in 2025. Ideally, you will have gained some experience via a year in industry.
What you will be doing as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor:
- Agreement of interim payment amounts with clients, monitoring when payments notices are due/received/outstanding.
- Final Account Negotiations and preparing project budgets in conjunction with the Sales team and/or Project Manager as and when required.
- Monitoring budgets against costs and projections on a monthly basis and reporting upline on a monthly basis.
- Assisting with troublesome subcontractor final accounts and ensuring that we fulfill all our contractual obligations.
- Working with the Project team and Directors regarding all commercial matters (variations, delays, etc.) and ensuring that they are identified and recorded.
- Assisting the Project Manager and Directors in the preparation of contractual notices and attending site visits to monitor for variations and quality matters if required to suit Client needs, whilst ensuring site records are produced and are accurate.
- Attendance at client meetings as and when needed.
- In conjunction with our Sales team, tender stage terms and conditions review and input.
- Maintain good relationships with clients, consultants, and colleagues.
- Mentoring of junior team members where required.
What we will need from our Assistant Quantity Surveyor:
- Degree in Quantity Surveying (essential).
- Experience of working in a similar commercial role within the fire protection sector or building services industry (desirable).
- Good base knowledge of standard forms of contract (desirable).
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations relevant to the Fire Engineering industry (desirable).
- Proficient in cost control techniques and software applications (desirable).
- Awareness of dispute resolution procedures and experience of managing disputes (desirable).
- Ability to produce accurate monthly cost and value reports (desirable).
- Ability to negotiate with clients/sub-contractors (desirable).
- Experience of working on final accounts (desirable).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills (desirable).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy (desirable).
- Effective communication and negotiation skills (desirable).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team (desirable).
- IT/Software specific experience e.g. MS Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc. (desirable).
