The Senior Cardiac Physiologist will work in the Echocardiography service, supporting the growth and development of the echocardiography and pacing services.

The role also involves supporting the Cardiology department with various investigations. Clinical duties include performing resting Transthoracic Echo, Exercise stress and Dobutamine Stress echo, bubble and contrast echo, 12 Lead ECGs, Holter Monitoring and Analysis, Event Monitoring, Blood pressure Monitoring, Exercise Testing, routine pacemaker checks, and administrative tasks.

The successful candidate must be able to independently write clinical reports for transthoracic echocardiography to a BSE standard, with physiologist reports provided after holter and ETT analysis.

Located in St John’s Wood on the Jubilee line, our private hospital has an international reputation for high-quality care. All profits support our onsite Hospice, St John’s.

Responsibilities as a Senior Cardiac Physiologist

  • Participate in cardiac investigations within your skill set, including performing tests and providing reports.
  • Act as an independent practitioner without direct supervision.
  • Follow BSE, SCST, and NICE guidelines, adhering to departmental and hospital policies.
  • Maintain expertise in cardiac resuscitation procedures.
  • Ensure the safe use of cardiology testing equipment.
  • Implement quality control and assurance standards.
  • Clean equipment per infection control policies.
  • Perform investigations independently, recognizing when immediate follow-up is required.
  • Manage pacemaker follow-up lists, conducting annual reviews or as advised.
  • Write technical reports for investigations.
  • Contribute to policy and protocol development within the department.
  • Participate in research and clinical audits.
  • Assist Cardiologists in theatres with DC cardioversions.
  • Maintain high standards to support the hospital’s CQC rating and help achieve an \’Outstanding\’ rating.

Ideal Candidate

  • BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent
  • ALS or ILS (desirable)
  • RCCP registration (desirable)
  • BSE or equivalent (desirable)
  • Experience as an independent practitioner in cardiology investigations
  • Ability to perform and report Adult Transthoracic Echocardiograms independently
  • Experience with Exercise and Dobutamine stress echocardiograms, bubble and contrast echo
  • 24-hour Holter analysis experience
  • Proficiency in a wide range of non-invasive investigations
  • Understanding of cardiac procedures and techniques
  • Strong communication skills
  • Teaching skills (desirable)
