We are seeking a Health Care Assistant to join our day case surgical ward, a 15-bed unit specializing in various surgical specialties, including: spinal injections, minor orthopaedic, ophthalmic, ENT, vascular, minor urology, gynae, and plastics/cosmetic surgery. The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar environment and be current with best practices. Experience working in a busy ward within multidisciplinary teams is essential. Located in leafy St John’s Wood on the Jubilee line, minutes from Central London, our luxury private hospital is renowned for providing top-quality care. All profits support our onsite hospice, St John’s.
Responsibilities of the Health Care Assistant:
- Assist in planning patient care and delivering excellent care services.
- Support the operational management of the department, aiding shift leaders and the Ward Manager.
- Support the management and development of nursing care and service delivery.
- Provide support to the Ward Manager, Deputy Ward Manager, and shift leaders.
- Take on link nurse roles for designated clinical responsibilities, attend meetings, and complete associated actions.
- Create a welcoming, caring, and safe environment for patients and families.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of patient rooms, ward hallways, storerooms, and nurses' station.
- Participate in stock and supply management, using consumables efficiently.
- Work flexibly, including weekends, based on ward needs.
- Be adaptable to work in different departments as required, including during closures.
- Escort patients to other departments or hospitals as needed.
- Complete nursing documentation according to hospital policies.
- Perform safety checks on the ward regularly.
- Assist consultants and nurses with procedures and interventions.
- Measure and record weight, height, samples, and other clinical data accurately, reporting abnormalities.
- Support patient admissions, investigations, procedures, and discharges, including referrals.
- Follow manual handling policies and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Adhere to infection control policies and maintain best practices to reduce infection rates.
- Complete mandatory training and obtain necessary competencies.
- Be aware of hospital incidents and complaints, and contribute to shared learning.
Candidate Requirements:
- Good educational background.
- Basic computer skills.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
- Care Certificate (desirable).
- Experience working in a team and achieving objectives.
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
