We are looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to join our commercial team, reporting to the Head of Patient Services.

This is a senior relationship-focused role for someone who thrives on driving consultant engagement, building referral networks, and delivering measurable revenue growth in a complex private healthcare environment.

Is this role right for you?

  • You will have substantial experience working in an independent or private hospital setting, with at least five years in a business development, sales, or consultant liaison capacity at senior level.
  • You will be results-driven with a demonstrable track record against growth targets, and comfortable working with utilisation data, market demographics, and consultant referral patterns to inform your priorities.
  • You should be educated to diploma level or above in marketing or management, though candidates with equivalent industry experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and a structured approach to market intelligence and pipeline management will be important in this role.
  • Above all, we are looking for someone with outstanding interpersonal skills, sound personal judgement, and the resilience to operate effectively in a fast-paced, consultant-facing environment.

What will you be doing?

  • As the principal liaison for the consultant body at HJE, you will be responsible for growing and retaining referrals across all service lines, targeting and recruiting new consultants, and shifting activity from competitor sites.
  • You will manage two Business Development Officers, providing direction and oversight to ensure consistent and effective delivery across the team.
  • Day to day, you will analyse market and utilisation data to identify relationship priorities, prepare monthly reports on new business opportunities and pipeline progress, and work closely with the Head of Patient Services, Commercial Director, and Head of Marketing to shape the hospital's overall consultant engagement strategy.
  • You will own issue resolution between consultants and hospital leadership, operating with a clear follow-up protocol and a strong sense of urgency.
  • You will also facilitate consultant specialty group meetings, drive cross-specialty referral opportunities, and maintain detailed, accurate records via our CRM system.

Why HJE?

We offer a genuinely supportive environment with real scope for commercial impact. Benefits include:

  • Private healthcare scheme worth up to £20,000 per year
  • 27 days annual leave
  • Interest‑free season ticket loans
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Free eye tests with contribution towards lenses
  • Local business and retail discounts
  • Free Cinema Society membership
  • Staff Gym
  • Refer a Friend scheme
  • Personal development and training
  • Annual recognition awards and events
