The Night Shift Manager is a frontline execution role, responsible for executing night-sortation, as well as evening preparation for night operations. The role focuses on supervising handlers, allocating work, exception handling, area readiness, asset preparation, and data accuracy, preventing operational debt from rolling into the following day. The role is accountable for accurate execution, monitoring, and early escalation.
Responsibilities
- Lead evening, pre-night depot activities - Ensure area readiness: yard, locations, belts, devices, scanners. Prepare magnums, pallets, cages, and equipment for Night Shift.
- Support Night Ops Manager to run inbound, scanning, sorting, and routing-prep activities with speed and accuracy.
- Coordinate handlers in the right activities monitoring productivity and coaching quality.
- Train new handlers in the required tasks and ensure they have the right working equipment.
- Handle late returns and required scans into the correct locations.
- Support unloading of HGV / linehaul arrivals.
- Maintain asset and equipment order and availability.
- Flag risks, gaps, or unresolved issues before Night Shift start.
- Operate in line with depot safety standards. Report unsafe conditions, defects, or near misses immediately.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives & highlight potential process improvements.
- Maintain safety, standards, and productivity discipline.
Requirements
- 2-4 years’ experience operating in fast-paced depot, warehouse, or other operational roles.
- Strong attention to detail and execution discipline.
- High urgency, strong communication, strong escalation habits.
- Able to communicate effectively & build relationships & work cross-functionally.
