Role Overview đ The Day Ops Manager oversees all UTR and OTR activity during the day shift. Time will be spent across UTR and OTR activities, from setâoff, to managing DSPs and overseeing the onâsite Driver team managing Partner Drivers and monitoring & managing routes. They will also oversee any daytime UTR activities and bridges required from the previous day/weekly, as well as forward planning such as labour. They will lead supervisors and frontline teams during AM hours, maintain safety and standards, manage realâtime escalations, and ensure the depot runs optimally from first setâoff activity through to area readiness completion.
Accountabilities:
- Accountable for all onâroad activities, including driver capacity, driver compliance, overall site performance (SLA, Delivery Success).
- Accountable for all inâdepot dayâtoâday and planning activities including people (labour pool, engagement, leadership succession planning), safety (auditing and near miss/incident reporting), quality (SLA, setâoff/onâtime dispatch), and cost (labour planning D+1/W+1/TPH).
Responsibilities:
- Lead shift during rotation - managing Shift Managers, Coordinators, Fleet Specialist - to deliver exceptional OTR & UTR dayâtime performance.
- Receive handover from Night Manager, deliver handover to midâShift Manager.
- Be GMâs primary support & deliver strong handovers - bridge any metrics DBR/WBR wise (such as people, safety, quality, cost).
- Lead & inspire, & develop and performance manage, team on OMâs shift rotation.
- OTR: DSP management â DSP Capacity, Account management relationships, and performance management.
- HIVED Partner Driver Capacity and pool management (Plan vs Actual).
- HIVED Partner Driver performance management â incl. attendance/punctuality, reliability (block uptake, noâshows, late starts).
- Oversees management of driver issues for escalations and approvals (e.g. missed payments, reassignments, abandonments).
- Legal compliance (hours on road, breaks, safety checks).
- UTR: Labour planning for weekâahead & night. Managing day activities, e.g. sortation as relevant, preparation for sortation.
- Succession planning for week ahead + 6âweek glance for their side of the week, & peaks.
- Drives continuous improvement initiatives & Develop standards and operating procedures.
- Maintain safety, standards, and productivity discipline.
- Ensure smooth transition from Night to Day Shift.
- Own monthly SAT (standard audit tracker) and the consequent actions.
Requirements:
- 4-6 yearsâ experience leading fastâpaced OTR / dispatch / lastâmile operations.
- Strong command of driver operations, route execution, and dispatch accuracy.
- Handsâon shift leadership with ability to manage 30â100+ staff via supervisors.
- Ability to lead and coach team.
- High urgency, strong communication, strong escalation habits.
- Comfortable solving realâtime operational pressure during peak windows.
- Excellent crossâfunctional stakeholder management skills.
