Hours: Part-time, 0.5 FTE (18.75 hours per week). Hours can be worked flexibly by arrangement, including a 9-day fortnight equivalent. Occasional home working is also possible.
Anna Dixon, Member of Parliament for Shipley, is looking for a Senior Caseworker to join her constituency-based team. Caseworkers play an important role in an MP's office, supporting the MP to ensure that constituents' concerns are heard and actioned. You will be responsible for overseeing a large caseload of complex cases, ensuring workflows are managed across the team, actions are taken, and constituents are kept informed throughout. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, alongside knowledge of local support organisations and sources of advice, are essential. The ideal candidate will be well organised, approachable and proactive, with a genuine desire to help people in the constituency. You will ideally have experience managing a caseload, liaising with external stakeholders, and supporting or supervising colleagues within a team.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a high volume of enquiries from members of the public via phone, email and face-to-face, including more complex cases
- Gather relevant information to assist with resolving and progressing cases
- Log all cases, monitor progress, and ensure all identified actions are taken
- Draft clear and professional responses to constituents
- Maintain accurate records and handle information confidentially in line with data protection legislation
- Analyse patterns of enquiries and communicate findings clearly to the MP and team
- Ensure all casework is handled promptly, sensitively and accurately
- Supervise other members of staff including coaching and mentoring
- Support constituency surgeries and follow up on actions as required
- Work flexibly, including occasional travel and work outside normal hours where necessary
Person specification
Essential:
- Experience supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds with a range of concerns
- Experience drafting and issuing written correspondence
- Knowledge of case management and handling information in line with data protection regulations
- Experience working in a customer-facing role, including managing challenging situations
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a demanding workload
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to summarise key information clearly
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office
- Good knowledge of the Shipley constituency and relevant local issues
- Awareness of local support organisations and advice services
- Sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party
Desirable:
- Experience working in a public sector or charity environment
- Experience managing high volumes of correspondence
- Knowledge of institutions and processes relevant to constituency casework
- Ability to identify trends in casework and communicate insights effectively
- Experience supervising, coaching or mentoring colleagues
