Nusrat Ghani is recruiting an experienced Communications Officer with a majority focus on digital media content and output to join her small, dedicated team, based in Westminster or Sussex Weald. This is a key role in a hardworking and proactive team, supporting the MP to deliver for constituents and to grow the MP’s profile and reputation locally using digital communications and social media.
Key Responsibilities
- Content creator for all social media platforms and online presence of the MP, responding to comments and boosting digital engagement.
- Produce video content, digital graphics and photos of the MP’s work.
- Ensure online presence is meeting the demands of the constituents and the MP and evaluate its impact.
- Support the Communications Manager with the MP website content and collaborating on digital content grid.
- Accompany MP to both Westminster (usually Mon–Thurs) and constituency events (usually Fridays), collecting photo and video content for use across a range of channels and contexts.
- Monitor national media coverage, create press releases and media briefings and report any relevant trends to the Communications Manager/MP.
- Provide administrative support to the team, including progressing campaigns, casework relating to campaigns, or other constituency focused tasks as required.
The Successful Candidate Will Have
- Previous professional experience in a digital communications or social media and content creation role.
- Experience creating content for digital channels, websites and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X and LinkedIn) and an understanding of how to produce engaging content, including video and graphics.
- Experience of working in an MP’s office (strongly desirable).
- Excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills, including video editing, evidenced by experience with Premiere Pro, CapCut, Canva or other similar software.
- Excellent grammar and a keen attention to detail.
- The ability to work well independently and proactively, as part of a small team; keeping track of and progressing tasks and managing own workload is crucial, as is communicating with the team.
- Knowledge of the Sussex Weald constituency is advantageous but not required; however, an understanding and awareness of Westminster politics is crucial.
Security vetting
Upon appointment, you will be required to apply for security clearance through the Security Vetting and Pass Office. Applicants must have been resident in the United Kingdom for a minimum of three out of the last five years. Applications from candidates who do not meet this requirement cannot be considered, in accordance with Parliament's security and vetting policy.
