Contract: Permanent, full-time, 37.5 hours per week (0.8 FTE or other flexible arrangements considered for the right candidate)
Anna Dixon, Member of Parliament for Shipley, is looking for a Caseworker to join her constituency-based team. You don't need a background in politics or parliamentary work to apply. We're looking for the right person — whether you're changing careers, returning to work, or simply looking for a new direction. Caseworkers play an important role in supporting constituents with a wide range of issues. You will help ensure that people who contact the office feel listened to, supported, and informed. You will be part of a small, friendly team and will receive training and development to build your skills and confidence over time. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who may not have previously considered a role in Parliament, including those from underrepresented or minoritised backgrounds, or from lower socio-economic backgrounds. If you are motivated to make a difference in your community and willing to learn, we would strongly encourage you to apply.
What you'll be doing:
- Responding to enquiries from constituents by phone, email and face-to-face
- Supporting the handling of a high volume of casework, including some more complex cases with guidance from colleagues
- Gathering information to help resolve or progress cases
- Logging and tracking cases to ensure actions are completed
- Drafting clear and professional responses to constituents
- Maintaining accurate and confidential records in line with data protection requirements
- Supporting constituency surgeries and following up on actions
- Liaising with government departments, local authorities and support organisations
- Identifying patterns in casework and helping to share insights with the team
- Attending constituency meetings where appropriate
There may occasionally be a need to work outside normal hours or travel for work. Occasional home working is also possible by arrangement.
About you:
We are looking for someone with the right attitude and potential, rather than a long list of previous roles. You might be a good fit if you:
- Are a strong communicator, both written and verbal
- Are organised and able to manage your time effectively
- Are approachable, empathetic and able to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds
- Are interested in helping people and making a positive difference locally
- Are willing to learn and develop new skills
- Can handle sensitive information with care and professionalism
It would be helpful (but not essential) if you have:
- Experience in a public-facing or customer-facing role
- Experience volunteering or being involved in your local community
- Some understanding of local issues in Shipley
- Basic IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office)
Training and development:
This role is designed to support your development. You will receive:
- Training in casework and constituency processes
- Ongoing support and mentoring from experienced colleagues
- Opportunities to build knowledge of public services and local issues
- The chance to develop skills in communication, research and problem-solving
Benefits:
- Salary within IPSA pay scales
- Generous employer pension contribution
- Access to training and development opportunities
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Flexible working arrangements considered, including 0.8 FTE and 9-day fortnight
Upon appointment, you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
Key dates:
- Closing date: 19 May 2026 at 5:00pm
- Interviews: Week commencing 1 June 2026 (in person, or online if required)
- Start date: As soon as possible thereafter
