HW Finance are delighted to be retained by a FTSE Listed Group in West Yorkshire to help appoint a new a new Group Financial Controller.
This is a key role, central to Board and external regulatory financial reporting. The Group Financial Controller will maintain constructive working relationships with all relevant stakeholders, ensuring the ongoing integrity of the Group’s financial control environment.
This includes identifying control and operational efficiency risks and opportunities. The role will also involve supporting the Chief Financial Officer and the Director of Group Finance on various projects, as well as managing, supervising, and supporting the development of other plc Finance colleagues.
Responsibilities:
- Produce annual and interim reports, including narrative reporting, financial accounting, and IFRS disclosures
- Have operational responsibility for the Group financial audit, acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors and managing internal communication
- Be responsible for areas requiring specific technical accounting expertise (e.g., EPS, share schemes, pension scheme accounting, areas of judgement, acquisition, and fair value accounting)
- Oversee the production, and ensure the ongoing integrity, of monthly Board report papers
- Ongoing “technical and regulatory” accounting and reporting compliance
- Maintain the investor relations (IR) website
- Maintaining and updating group profit, working capital and cash forecasts
- Preparation of consolidated Group budget and Board Paper
- Provide financial forecasting support to the strategic planning process
- Develop and maintain 5-year forecast models, including scenario and stress test modelling for Viability Statement and Impairment testing
- Management and operation of hedging instruments (eg. fuel hedging and interest rate swaps)
- Maintain risk register and facilitate update by risk owners
- Manage internal audit process
- Maintain bonus scheme target and performance documentation, including Management Incentive Plan (MIP), Bonus Share Plan (BSP), and Employee Benefit Trust (EBT) accounting
- Authorisation responsibilities in relation to bank transactions and payments
Ideal Candidate:
- The ideal candidate will be ACA Qualified (preferably Big 4 Trained) either operating as a Senior Manager within External Audit or within industry in a similar Group Reporting role
- Thorough knowledge of technical financial reporting requirements under IFRS and financial reporting in a Listed company environment
- Thorough knowledge and experience of operating robust internal financial control systems and processes
- Experienced people manager with strong interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills, and the ability to build relationships across the business.
