Your New Role
Ready to take the lead in a fast-paced, high-impact environment? At Hitachi Rail, we’re offering a rare opportunity to join our team as a Control Room Team Leader, a role at the heart of our operations. In this position, you’ll oversee the smooth running of our control room, ensuring our fleet is maintained, serviced, and cleaned to the highest standards. You’ll play a key role in keeping our trains on track and our passengers moving. If you have management experience, fantastic! Please note: This is a shift-based role covering days, nights, and weekends, perfect for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading fleet planning and managing all operational interfaces at the Control Centre.
- Coordinating technical riding inspectors and station-based technicians.
- Supervising and supporting Maintenance Controllers and Technical Riding Inspectors.
- Working closely with maintenance depots to deliver short- and long-term maintenance plans.
- Managing train performance and ensuring fleet availability.
- Capturing in-service maintenance needs and planning accordingly.
- Maintaining accurate records, logs, and diagnostics.
- Monitoring KPIs and ensuring compliance through IT systems.
- Driving team development and fostering strong stakeholder relationships.
- Creating personal development plans for direct reports.
- Learning new skills to meet evolving business needs.
- Conducting competency assessments and liaising with internal and external teams.
- Acting as deputy for the Control Room Manager or Maintenance Controller when required.
About you
Essential:
- Prior experience working in the same or similar type of role.
- Sound knowledge of railway operations.
- Technical understanding of traction and rolling stock.
- Ideally have strong leadership and management experience.
- Sound knowledge of and compliance to rules and regulations.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good team worker and able to build relationships with other stakeholders.
- Capable of working in stressful environments for long periods of time.
Qualifications:
- Vocational engineering qualifications and experience.
Desirable:
- Intermediate IT skills, typically Word, Excel, Equinox.
- Previous experience of using Genius Trust P2 is desirable but not essential.
- Previous experience of working in operational railway control rooms would be advantageous.
