Job Description:
Our Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for a Senior RAMS Manager to join Hitachi Rail. This role is responsible for managing the Operations for Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Technical Safety (RAMS) on UK Projects, Products and Services. This role will exercise effective leadership on these projects in order to meet legal, customer, contractual and other relevant requirements placed upon the company. The role will provide RAMS support to multiple projects as well as the Safety Function, ensuring that the relevant processes apply consistently and to the required quality. This is a hybrid role working a minimum of two days per week from one of our sites in London.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide overall management and leadership of RAMS
- Manage the safety-related interfaces between business, customer and other stakeholders including statutory bodies
- RAMS delivery on projects as necessary
- Manage the development and maintenance of the safety and system assurance plans and processes, RAMS analyses as well as safety cases.
- Required to provide management and leadership for the Safety, RAM and System Assurance deliverables throughout the project lifecycle, from specification, Safety Case development through to safety approval and acceptance
- Interface with the client, to capture and define system and safety requirements, and later in the lifecycle the content of verification and validation activities and the required format for any Safety demonstrations
- Coordinate and support the RAMS input to bids, including the safety management organisation, roles and responsibilities, Safety engineering and Safety assurance/approvals activities and costs of tasks to be conducted
- Develop remits and manage contracts with independent bodies
- Preparation and supervision for on-site testing and commissioning of assets, equipment and systems in a railway environment
- Support and participation in Safety reviews and safety audits as appropriate
- Provide support to the Safety Authority for Incident reporting and response, including mitigation, root cause analysis, corrective action definition, tracking and closeout and lessons learned
- Support to the RAMS Head of Function for strategic, communication and training initiatives
- Support the development of employees in your team
- Set functional and development objectives for individuals (in collaboration with the Head of Function)
- Manage and facilitate formal performance measures including any PIPs
- Support the recruitment process by reviewing CVs and participating in interviews
- Manage the demand from bids and projects to ensure that appropriate skills and nurture capability within your team (in collaboration with the Head of Function)
- Verify that processes are in place and followed to ensure that all staff have the right competencies to deliver their role
Technical Skills and Experience:
- Reliability, Availability, Maintainability (RAM) and Technical Safety techniques, methods and tools
- Specialist knowledge and experience of railway RAMS standards, such as EN50126, EN50716, EN50129 and European Railway Regulation for Safety and Interoperability
- Able to undertake independent investigations
- Experience in managing teams.
- Technical Safety and RAM engineering background
- Knowledge and experience of railway systems and assets, particularly Mainline UK railway signalling, control and information systems
- Demonstrable track record in delivering safety solutions through safety approvals and into operation
- Experience in RAMS delivery activities within the rail industry or construction industry
- Experience in System Assurance
- Experience in developing Safety Cases for complex and safety critical systems and gathering required evidence/facts
