Overview

As Bid Manager you lead the full bid lifecycle to deliver compelling, compliant submissions that meet customer requirements and budget. You will coordinate cross-functional teams across multiple units and countries, shaping win themes and proposal content. You’ll balance strategic planning with hands-on governance, ensuring timely, high-quality bids. This role blends strategic influence with practical execution in a fast-paced environment, contributing to Hitachi Rail’s customer-focused solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute bid strategies and plans
  • Lead multidisciplinary bid teams and coordinate cross-unit / cross-country efforts
  • Define objectives, milestones and deadlines for bids
  • Ensure compliance with tender instructions and submission requirements
  • Manage both competitive and single-source bids and oversee bid budgets
  • Lead bid governance activities and reviews
  • Coordinate proposal development, writing and graphics support
  • Oversee estimating activities including cost-benefit analysis and risk validation
  • Manage tender portals and use historical data to improve delivery
  • Identify and mitigate risks while maximizing opportunities throughout the bid lifecycle
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and customers
  • Drive continuous improvement via lessons learned and feedback
  • Support project teams with variation offers or claims

Key requirements

  • Proven experience managing bids through the full lifecycle
  • Knowledge of Shipley and/or APMP Capture and Bid Management processes
  • Strong proposal planning, writing and review skills
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary bid teams
  • Excellent stakeholder and customer relationship management
  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness
  • Financial acumen with budgeting, forecasting and cost-benefit analysis
  • Knowledge of project and change management techniques
  • Experience identifying and managing risks and opportunities
  • Strong resource planning and organizational skills
  • Strategic and analytical thinking to analyze customer requirements
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate activities
