Hitachi Energy has an exciting opportunity to join our Grid Automation business as a Secondary Applications Engineer. You’ll be responsible for detailed electrical application engineering design for medium to high complexity projects for the Grid Automation P&C team. Coordinate engineering assignments within the entire value chain efficiently, time and cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specification, quality standards and safety requirements.
You’ll be focused on value engineering, ensuring full consultation with all design stakeholders, adhere to engineering time estimates, forecasts and reporting deadlines within the role of secondary application engineer, support others to meet their project timescales and enact the legislative duties of a designer and develop designs which eliminate and reduce risks to health, safety and the environment.
How you’ll make an impact:
- To act as a technical specialist for Application / Circuit Engineering within the team.
- To develop technical specifications for Plant items such as CT’s, VT’s, Circuit Breakers, auxiliary supply boards and Protection & Control Equipment.
- Input into design review meetings and design risk registers.
- Calculate Cable, Battery and LVAC loading requirements.
- Provide support during the production of Wiring Diagrams, Cable Schedules, core sheets and other general interfacing diagrams.
- Assist in preparing proposal/presentation of engineering projects/programs (provision of bills of materials, estimated engineering hours, etc.).
- Commercial awareness and support project management in issuing claims (new/change in scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications, etc.).
- Provide regular project updates, attend technical review meetings and report progress to the project and line management and directly liaise and resolve any customer and internal technical issue.
Background:
- HNC / HND in Electrical engineering.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within the Electrical Industry and in a similar role.
- Strong design capability and experience in the secondary application engineering discipline of Power System.
- Strong coordination and teamwork skills.
- Excellent communication skills with both internal and external teams and customers.
- UK National Grid CDAE Accreditation.
- Understanding of UK electricity industry standards.
- Valid UK Driving License.
