Hitachi has an exciting Field Service Apprentice opportunity that starts in October 2026. This role offers both college and on-site training. This apprenticeship offers an exciting opportunity to join the High Voltage Service team and develop practical engineering skills while working towards a recognised engineering qualification. The role combines academic study with hands-on field experience supporting the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and servicing of Hitachi Energy High Voltage equipment.
The apprentice will gain experience working alongside skilled engineers on customer sites and Hitachi Energy projects, supporting a range of High Voltage products including Generator Circuit Breakers (GCB), Dead Tank Breakers (DTB), Live Tank Breakers (LTB), protection and control systems, operating mechanisms, monitoring systems, and associated ancillary equipment. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are enthusiastic about engineering, willing to learn, adaptable to changing environments, and committed to developing a career within the power industry.
Throughout the programme, the apprentice will receive structured training, mentoring, and practical development opportunities designed to build technical competence, professional confidence, and a strong understanding of High Voltage field service operations.
How you'll make an impact:
- Assist with the installation, testing, and commissioning of Hitachi Energy High Voltage products at customer sites.
- Support Field Service Engineers during site activities involving GCB, DTB, LTB and other High Voltage equipment.
- Learn commissioning procedures for High Voltage control, protection, monitoring, and measuring systems.
- Assist with fault finding, troubleshooting, and rectification activities under the supervision of experienced engineers.
- Support High Voltage project activities and collaborate with project teams when required.
- Learn the safe operation and maintenance of specialist test equipment, commissioning tools, and SF₆ gas handling equipment.
- Participate in site preparation activities including equipment checks, calibration verification, and tool management.
- Assist with the preparation of technical documentation, commissioning records, method statements, and site reports.
- Learn how to coordinate safely with customers, contractors, and subcontractors during project execution.
- Develop knowledge of protection, control, operating mechanisms, and drive systems associated with High Voltage products.
Background:
- Engineering or technical studies (college, BTEC, T-Level, A-Level, or equivalent)
