Description

Working in a permanent feature team, you'll be developing knowledge of aspects of the associated platform across the disciplines of business, applications, data and infrastructure.

You'll also be liaising with principal engineers, architects in the domain and other key stakeholders to understand how the platform works and how it supports business objectives.

Our client is building a high-performance engineering initiative focused on developing a brand-new, real-time banking platform designed for scalability, high availability, and zero-downtime reliability.

The project aims to modernize the core financial infrastructure by applying resilient distributed systems engineering, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native automation principles.

The platform architecture relies on a microservices ecosystem built with Java and Spring Boot, leveraging Apache Kafka for real-time asynchronous event streaming, RESTful API management for secure communication, and robust continuous deployment pipelines.

The engineering team operates with strong autonomy, empowering engineers to drive architectural excellence across business, application, data, and infrastructure layers.

The initiative focuses on developing end-to-end features, applying resilient design patterns to handle complex failure modes, automating build and deployment lifecycles, and ensuring full system observability and forward compatibility across all platform capabilities.

Requirements

  • Senior-level experience in enterprise software engineering with a focus on high-throughput, real-time banking and financial systems.
  • Strong proficiency in core Java development, Spring Boot microservices, and modern resilient service design patterns.
  • Hands-on expertise with Apache Kafka and event-driven architectures, including both orchestrated and choreographed patterns.
  • Proven track record with Continuous Deployment (CD) practices, cloud-native operational paradigms, and automation as a core engineering principle.
  • Solid background in designing and operating scalable RESTful APIs, with emphasis on versioning, monitoring, observability, and forward/backward compatibility.
  • Practical experience in distributed, cloud-native environments, including handling complex failure modes and applying defensive coding techniques.
  • Strong understanding of resilient software engineering, intentional architecture, emergent design, and test/deployment automation.
  • Experience in banking, financial services, or highly regulated environments (e. g., Utilities) is a strong plus.
  • Strong team player with a mindset for continuous learning, technical excellence, and mentoring fellow engineers.
  • Job responsibilities
  • Design, produce, test, and implement robust, scalable, and resilient distributed software across the entire development lifecycle.
  • Contribute to building and maintaining a modern real-time banking platform, delivering business value aligned with product outcomes.
  • Apply Agile methods to manage and develop software backlog items, ensuring long-lived and flexible application design.
  • Build event-driven microservices using Spring Boot and Kafka, prioritizing high availability, low latency, and operational excellence.
  • Implement continuous build, test, and deployment automation using executable patterns to streamline software delivery.
  • Collaborate with Principal Engineers, Domain Architects, and key stakeholders to align technical architecture with business objectives.
  • Formulate emergent design through innovative ideas, experimentation, and rapid technical prototyping.
  • Coach and mentor other engineers to foster technical capability and continuous engineering growth across the team.
