As an Engineering Manager, you will serve as the delivery counterpart to the client's engineering leadership. You will play a pivotal role in engineering the UK's Sovereign Digital Airspace Backbone by connecting technical execution, product priorities, assurance evidence, dependencies, and stakeholder decisions. Your primary objective is to turn the complex, multi-vendor OpenAir scope into controlled plans, establishing a predictable delivery rhythm and driving successful build-readiness outcomes.

Requirements

  • Domain Expertise: A strong mix of product, technology, and programme delivery experience. Proven background delivering within highly regulated, safety-critical, or complex domains such as Critical National Infrastructure (CNI), AI-enabled operations, data platforms, telecom, or critical energy.
  • Delivery Methodologies: Deep expertise in Agile/Scrumban delivery frameworks, with a track record of driving sprint planning, backlog management, and iterative delivery in environments with upfront requirement uncertainty.
  • Stakeholder Management: Exceptional capability to interface directly with senior client engineering leadership and translate highly complex technical scopes into transparent, manageable project plans.
  • System-of-Systems Experience: Prior experience delivering distributed, multi-party enterprise architectures or event-driven digital backbones is highly desirable.

Job responsibilities

  • Delivery Leadership & Planning: Lead overall engineering delivery, sprint planning, and backlog ownership across the OpenAir design, prototype, and build phases.
  • Technical & Product Alignment: Act as the bridge between technical execution and product priorities, ensuring that engineering outputs strictly align with client Service Requirements and stakeholder decisions.
  • Build-Readiness & Execution: Coordinate build-readiness and manage the delivery rhythm, translating complex requirements into controlled, executable delivery plans.
  • Multi-Vendor & Dependency Management: Manage complex dependencies across a multi-vendor ecosystem, ensuring seamless integration and issue resolution.
  • Assurance & Evidence Coordination: Ensure that engineering delivery seamlessly connects with assurance evidence requirements, working closely with QA and Assurance Leads.
  • "One-Team" Collaboration: Work natively with embedded client personnel and co-locate 2-3 days a week at the client office to foster deep trust, avoid sequential handovers, and run joint design/development workshops.
  • Distributed Team Coordination: Partner with the Nearshore Engineering Manager and the offshore delivery centers to scale engineering, platform, data, and testing capacity effectively.
