Job Description
Here at Hitachi Rail, we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and self‐motivated Wheel Lathe Technician to join our team at the North Pole Train Maintenance Centre in London.
Salary: £43,375, 15% Shift allowance, £6000 Location allowance, Permanent contract
Accountabilities
In this exciting role you will operate and maintain the wheel lathe and carry out associated activities that support the operations of the wheel lathe. This is a permanent role working on a rotating shift basis. Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:
- Maintain the condition of the work site, materials and equipment.
- Support health and safety practices in the workplace.
- Prepare for and undertake planned maintenance on the wheel lathe & ancillary equipment.
- Carry out wheel turning for Hitachi and third‐party rolling stock.
- Post‐operation checks and adjustments.
- Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications.
- Provide operational support to fleet staff if lathe duties permit.
- Develop professionally and support good working relationships.
- Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi's new business demands as required.
- Liaise with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post.
About you
Required Skills / Knowledge:
Experience in Milling, Turning, CNC, or similar experience.
Sound knowledge of, and adherence to, rules and regulations.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Education / Qualifications:
M & E ONC or served apprenticeship with mechanical, electrical disciplines.
Engineering based NVQ level 3 or 2.
Behavioral:
Calm and diplomatic under pressure.
Loyal, committed, confident and determined.
Strong team player.
Able to represent Hitachi Rail professionally at all times.
Desired Skills (not essential):
Intermediate IT skills (e.g. Word, Excel).
Milling/Turning/CNC or similar experience.
Network Rail Sentinel PTS.
Depot driving and shunting.
Wheel Lathe operations and maintenance experience.
