Job Description

Here at Hitachi Rail, we have multiple job opportunities for enthusiastic self‑motivated Maintenance Technicians who thrive in a fast‑paced environment. The successful candidate will be comfortable performing a wide range of tasks and is open to working in rotating shift patterns. The position is based in London. This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to start their career in rail as NO railway experience is required for this role!

Salary: £43,696 with 15% shift allowance and £6,000 location allowance. Permanent contract.

Accountabilities

  • Undertaking corrective and preventative maintenance, servicing and repair of Hitachi rolling stock assets.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance activities on rolling stock within the TMC in accordance with the vehicle maintenance instructions.
  • Undertake servicing and preparation of rolling stock.
  • Actively participate in ongoing continuous improvement activities for maintenance processes and procedures that support all depot and fleet activities.
  • Support the delivery of new trains and undertake the maintenance acceptance processes.
  • Ensure exam tasks are completed in a timely manner, undertake basic fault rectification or repair when required.
  • Adhere to all health and safety processes and procedures.
  • Attend testing locations, main line station and outstations to undertake preventive and corrective maintenance as required.
  • Be prepared to travel and overnight away from base location for short periods of time.
  • Support the Maintenance Team Leaders and Production Managers in the delivery of the production plan.
  • Record all work activities and stock consumption using the maintenance management system in accordance with maintenance processes and procedures.
  • Work shifts to meet the service requirements of Hitachi customers within the TMC.
  • Assist as required.

About You

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Experience of working a 24/7 shift roster in a modern rolling stock maintenance depot environment.
  • Experience of working at stabling outstations or main line station technical support.
  • Modern fault finding and repair techniques using PC based laptops and remote train diagnostics.
  • Experience of performing modifications and campaigns on modern rolling stock.
  • Comfortable working within a team or on their own.
  • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times.
  • Ability to investigate complex electrical and mechanical faults and write detailed reports.

Education / Qualifications

  • Served apprenticeship with mechanical, electrical disciplines.
  • Engineering based NVQ level 3.

Behavioural

  • Calm and diplomatic under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to interface effectively with all levels of personnel both within and outside the company.
  • Loyal, committed, confident and determined.

Desired Skills (not Essential)

  • Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.
  • Reading electrical, pneumatic, mechanical schematics and drawings.
  • Fire warden, First Aider.
  • Depot Protection.
  • Working at height, COSHH, Manual handling, AC/DC depot isolation.
