Job title: IT Network & Infrastructure Engineer
Contract type: 12‑month fixed term contract
Location: Ludgate Hill, London or Newton Aycliffe (Hybrid)
Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 DOE
Your new role
As an IT Network & Infrastructure Engineer you will support and implement core networking systems and provide technical support for all network related services, including Cisco, Fortigate, BT MPLS, and Colt MIA.
Key responsibilities
- Resolve new or unforeseen network problems using technical expertise.
- Support incident, problem, and change management for networking activities.
- Assist with project‑related activities and hardware installations or upgrades.
- Deploy updates and fixes to mitigate security vulnerabilities and maintain cyber‑security compliance.
- Harden networking equipment to meet Cyber Security policies and Cyber Essentials certification.
- Assist infrastructure team with non‑network equipment tasks such as DHCP, DNS, Zscaler ZIA, ZPA, monitoring, asset management, server admin, and firewall administration.
- Collaborate with colleagues, group services, and third‑party providers to deliver reliable business services.
- Promote Hitachi’s culture, values, and ethos.
- Adhere to Hitachi Rail Europe’s Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety policies.
- Undertake reasonable duties as required.
Essential Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate to business managers.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Robust experience providing networking support in a multi‑site organisation (> 500 persons).
- Experience supporting Cisco switches, access points, wireless LAN controllers, and upgrades.
- Experience supporting Fortigate firewalls, VPNs, DMZs, and firewall rule creation.
- Knowledge of IP networking, routing and security.
- Experience with Cisco WiFi technologies.
- Working knowledge of Zscaler ZIA, ZPA, and branch connectors.
Desirable Qualifications
- CCNA certification.
- Windows server administration knowledge.
- Understanding of hardware virtualization (VMware).
- Familiarity with Trellix security products, SCCM, and Ivanti.
- Knowledge of Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop.
