Responsibilities

  • Taking overall responsibility for HSE performance at the Doncaster depot and associated locations, ensuring compliance, consistency and continual improvement.
  • Acting as the senior HSE lead on site, advising and influencing local leadership teams on risk, legislation and best practice.
  • Translating company HSE strategy into practical, site‑specific plans, ensuring they are embedded and understood at all levels.
  • Leading the identification and management of complex operational and environmental risks, ensuring robust controls are in place.
  • Overseeing and coordinating accident, incident and near‑miss investigations, ensuring learning is shared and actions are driven to closure.
  • Managing and developing HSE colleagues, contractors or support resources, promoting capability, accountability and high standards.
  • Owning site HSE KPIs, performance reporting and trend analysis, using data to influence priorities and decision‑making.
  • Planning and delivering internal audits, inspections and safety campaigns, and supporting external audits when required.
  • Working closely with operational, engineering and project teams to ensure safe systems of work, contractor compliance and effective change management.
  • Championing a positive, proactive HSE culture, leading by example and challenging unsafe behaviours constructively.
  • Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, trade unions, customers and regulatory bodies.

About You

You’re a confident, engaging HSE professional who is comfortable operating in a complex operational or engineering environment. You enjoy being visible, pragmatic and collaborative, and you’re passionate about making safety real and relevant on site.

You’ll bring:

  • Previous experience operating at a senior level.
  • A recognised health & safety qualification (NEBOSH Diploma level or equivalent).
  • Membership of IOSH (Chartered or working towards).
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, including internal auditing.
  • Environmental awareness having achieved or will work toward practitioner status of the IEMA.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and supporting operational teams.
  • The ability to analyse data, identify risk and drive practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and a calm, professional approach.
  • A genuine commitment to developing a high-performing safety culture.
