Your new role
We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering team in Newton Aycliffe. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong electrical engineering background, who also has an appreciation or understanding of mechanical systems, to contribute to high-impact, technically complex projects. Working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, you’ll play a key role in the design, development, and integration of electrical systems across a range of applications.
Some Key Responsibilities
- Develop functional electrical schemes for systems and subassemblies
- Produce detailed wiring diagrams, harness layouts and electrical documentation for production
- Design electrical subassemblies, including cubicles, enclosures and external equipment
- Define and specify electrical and electro-mechanical components
- Prepare system and component technical specifications
- Support integration and testing of electrical systems, including on-system validation
- Conduct design reviews with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and customers
- Collaborate across engineering disciplines, particularly where electrical and mechanical interfaces intersect
About You
You’ll be an Electrical Engineer with strong technical capability and a proactive mindset, comfortable working both independently and within cross-functional teams. We’re particularly interested in candidates who bring:
- A solid foundation in electrical engineering principles and design
- Experience producing schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- An understanding or exposure to mechanical systems or electro-mechanical integration
- Familiarity with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, Creo, Catia or electrical design software (e.g. E3 Zuken)
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse technical requirements
- Effective communication skills and the confidence to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
Qualifications
Degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related discipline, with relevant experience)
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience within the rail industry or other highly regulated engineering environments
- Knowledge of electrical system standards and testing approaches within rail or similar sectors
