Description

Here at Hitachi Rail, we have a great opportunity for a dedicated Operation Team Member to join our team in Edinburgh at Craigentinny Train Maintenance Centre.

Salary: £39,772
15% Shift allowance
£3,000 Location Allowance
Permanent contract

Accountabilities

In this exciting role within the Movements team, you will be responsible for the safe control of movements of Traction and Rolling Stock as a designated person both on and off Craigentinny TMC, as well as the control of movements around the depot in line with operating procedures. Other key functions of the role will require staff to form, re-couple and uncouple vehicles/set/units, the operation of ground frame panels, pass competent in outstations and pass as a driver competent shunter.

  • Undertake as instructed shunting duties as issued by the Operations Team Leader in conjunction with Operating procedures ensuring that these duties are carried out in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Ensure all shunting duties are carried out in line with the Rule Book, Appendix and other instructions.
  • Arrive and depart of T&RS safely using approved techniques as set out within the Rule Book, Appendix and other instructions.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the standard and condition of all equipment required for movement operations are maintained to a high standard and any faults or defects are reported and logged.
  • Attend station and mainline callouts where required working to and within regulations and procedures as defined within the Personal Rule Book and Depot Safe Systems of Work.
  • Through adherence to Depot Operating Procedures, ensure the quality of operational movements undertaken are delivered in a safe and timely manner to enable the TMC to meet all contractual requirements agreed with the customer.

About You

Required Skills/ Knowledge

  • Experience working within a rail environment.
  • PTS able.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic Numeracy and Literacy.

Education/Qualifications

A level of engineering background knowledge, preferable to NVQ level 2/3 in mechanical or electrical engineering, or appropriate industry experience.

Behavioural

  • Sound knowledge of and compliance to the rulebook and operational procedures.
  • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to build working relationships.
  • Ability to remain flexible and withstand pressure.

Desired Skills (not Essential)

  • Basic IT skills – typically Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Experiences with Fleet Management Tools – P2, SOROS, Open Train Times.
  • Experience working with Traction and Rolling Stock.
