Refuelling Team Leader - Night Shift
At Hitachi Rail, we are seeking a committed Refuelling Team Leader for our permanent night shift operation at the Stoke Gifford Train Maintenance Centre in Bristol. This critical leadership role is responsible for overseeing and delivering the safe, efficient servicing of Hitachi rolling stock assets.
Responsibilities
- Lead the servicing team to ensure trains are prepared, compliant, and available for service in line with operational and contractual requirements.
- Undertake servicing and replenishment of trains arriving for service, including diesel fuel, Ad‑Blu toilet system, fresh water for toilet and galley systems, drivers’ windscreen wash, and sand hoppers.
- Support maintenance staff with corrective and preventative maintenance, complex fault finding, and repair of Hitachi rolling stock assets.
- Use the Maintenance Management System (SAP) to record all work, materials used and defects found.
- Ensure accurate capture of servicing requirements and material usage, and that returned materials are correctly labelled and processed.
- Contribute to the continued development of the SAP maintenance management system (MMS).
- Ensure compliance with lean principles and best practice as instructed at North Pole and other out‑stabled locations as necessary.
- Co‑ordinate with maintenance staff and cleaners to meet the contractual number of trains made available for service.
- Follow health and safety requirements, use appropriate PPE, keep walkways and pits clean after work, and liaise with Hitachi and external personnel as required.
- Assist as required to ensure uninterrupted night‑shift operations.
Qualifications
- Intermediate IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics and drawings.
- Train driving, fire warden, and first aid competencies.
- Mechanical & electrical ONC, or a served apprenticeship in mechanical/electrical disciplines, or equivalent proven railway experience.
- NVQ Level 3 in Engineering (or equivalent).
- Depot protection competence.
- Certifications in working at height, COSHH, manual handling and AC/DC depot isolation.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with powered plant and tools (e.g., bogie drop, cranes, air systems, 110 V tools).
- Train driving assessment and licence.
