We are building a talent pool of experienced content design contractors to support increasing demand across a range of digital transformation initiatives. Contractors in this pool will be engaged on delivery-focused project work across a mix of commercial and UK Government clients, supporting initiatives of varying scale and complexity. Engagements will differ in length and scope depending on project requirements and will be agreed on a project-by-project basis. This role does not include formal line management or responsibility for internal capability development.
The Senior Content Designer contractor will be accountable for delivering agreed content design outcomes within the scope of each project, which may include:
- Providing independent content design expertise within multidisciplinary delivery teams
- Planning and delivering content design activities aligned to project goals, delivery milestones, and decision needs
- Designing clear, accessible and user‑centred content across digital products and services
- Structuring and organising information so users can easily understand it and complete tasks
- Prototyping content within user journeys and interface flows to test language and interactions in context
- Applying research, data, and evidence to understand user needs, validate language choices, and improve content iteratively
- Facilitating workshops and working sessions that help teams and stakeholders simplify complex information, policy, and processes
- Clearly communicating content decisions, trade‑offs, and design rationale to technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Working alongside delivery teams while retaining responsibility for own outputs and deliverables
Qualifications:
- Strong experience delivering content design on complex digital or organisational change programmes
- Proven ability to design content for end‑to‑end services in environments with multiple stakeholders, constraints, and dependencies
- Experience working across Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live phases in agile delivery contexts
- Strong writing, editing, and information structuring skills with a focus on clarity, accessibility, and usability
- Practical experience using research, data, and evidence to inform content decisions and test language with users
- Experience facilitating focused, outcome‑driven sessions that help organisations simplify complex policy or technical content
- Strong experience applying the GDS Service Standard and content design principles, including GOV.UK style guidance, within delivery teams
- Confidence working closely with designers, researchers, engineers, product managers, and senior business stakeholders
