The opportunity: As Engineering Manager, your role is to foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You will lead the engineering team within Hitachi Energy’s service division, supporting the engineering of lifecycle services—such as replacement, extensions, upgrades, and commissioning—to electrical infrastructure across the power grid. This role ensures compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and operational excellence while driving innovation and efficiency in service delivery.
How You’ll Make An Impact:
- Mentor, and develop a team of engineers, ensuring high performance and engagement.
- Allocate resources effectively across projects and monitor workload distribution.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Resource projects for design delivery & support during installation, focusing on safety, timely delivery, quality & margin improvement.
- Develop, implement, and improve relevant processes, policies, and procedures to improve effectiveness across the engineering function.
- Ensure the required systems and processes are available, understood and implemented.
- Provide updates to project managers on progress in programme reviews.
- Conduct regular design progress reviews.
- Identify, raise and mitigate contractual risks.
- Provide engineering support and feed back lessons learned in tendering.
- Initiate and encourage a continuous improvement culture within the team.
- Provide training, development and guidance to the team and the wider business.
- Build and maintain relationships with the key stakeholders to projects both internally and externally to the business.
- Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of new engineering talent.
Your background:
- Engineering degree, Engineering School, University or equivalent knowledge / experience, ideally in Electrical or Controls engineering.
- We welcome talent with experience from the industry and you will be outstanding if you are from the energy sector: Oil & Gas, Power Distribution, Power Transmission, Power Generation.
- Strong experience in complex projects and leading engineering disciplines, with significant experience of people leadership.
- Passionate about developing teams and people, with an ability to drive large‑scale, high‑impact initiatives.
- Take a pro‑active approach to ensuring Health & Safety is paramount, including conducting Risk Assessments where necessary.
- Significant customer interface experience, ability to influence others and lead teams, and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities and a data‑driven approach to decision‑making.
