Hitachi Energy is hiring a Senior Project Engineer to join the team. This opportunity is ideal for someone with a passion for applications engineering, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to prepare detailed documentation and diagrams. In this role you will provide technical expertise in the design and installation of substation layouts for 400 kV to 11 kV substation projects.

Note: This position is hybrid – approximately 2–3 days working from our central Birmingham office. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

How You’ll Make An Impact

• Provide substation layouts and detail diagrams in accordance with established UK standards and processes through allocated CAD resources.
• Develop technical specifications and material schedules for primary equipment.
• Prepare conductor force calculations.
• Check and approve project documentation in accordance with established standards.
• Ensure delivery of your own and delegated work packages to project programme, scope and budget, offering comments where required.
• Provide technical support and develop tender scheme options and related project scope documents.
• Produce engineering time estimates and support monthly forecasts.
• Participate in design and hazard review meetings.
• Provide on‑site technical support when required.

Your Background

• Minimum qualification of HNC/HND in a related engineering field.
• Proven knowledge of transmission or distribution practices (400 kV to 11 kV).
• Good teamwork, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines in high‑pressure environments.
• Working knowledge of Windows, MS Office, and AutoCAD.
• Electricity supply industry experience.
• Understanding of Distribution Network Operator / National Grid standards and drawing practices.
