Our HVDC business is now recruiting multiple Site HSE Managers for long‑term international assignments on large‑scale HVDC mega‑projects. In these roles, you will be responsible for all Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements in line with regulatory, company, and client standards. You will advise, coach, and support project teams to ensure the safe execution of complex, high‑profile HVDC projects around the world.
How You’ll Make An Impact
- Support the project team in the preparation, set‑up and improvement of the project Health, Safety and Environmental system (Site HSE Plan, Emergency Preparedness & Response Plan, Construction Traffic Management Plan, etc.)
- Ensure activities under the scope of Hitachi Energy are in compliance with legal and contractual HSE requirements as well as internal HSE requirements.
- Participate, review, and assist in the development of safety documentation e.g. Risk Assessments & Method Statements and Permit to Work.
- Review HSE documentation from all Hitachi Energy Subcontractors and support Subcontractors to meet internal and project HSE requirements.
- Act as the HSE focal point to site, project, and management, and coordinate with all frontline managers regarding HSE matters.
- Ensure leading/lagging indicators are collated and reported to allow for KPI reports to be generated.
- Work in cooperation with other stakeholders; establishing and maintaining close contact with the Client and Subcontractor HSE representatives.
- Participate in the coordination of site activities to identify potentially hazardous Simultaneous Operations and ensure activities are planned and completed in accordance with the approved Safe System of Work.
- Plan and deliver HSE campaigns such as Toolbox Talk (TBT), briefings, demonstrations, drills.
- Establish and execute training and induction programs to ensure the Health, Safety and Environmental competencies of site personnel are maintained.
- Provide guidance and advice on matters relating to HSE for on‑site personnel.
- Lead site incident investigations to ensure a root cause and preventative/corrective actions are identified, and that all information is suitably collated within the Company Incident Management System.
- Identify trends by following‑up of incident and hazard observation data and propose suitable risk reducing measures.
- Be visible onsite and complete regular focused inspections whilst engaging in safety conversations with site personnel.
- Be an active member of the HSE team by promoting the Hitachi Energy HSE processes and interacting with site personnel.
- Be an ambassador for the Hitachi Energy ‘We Care’ behavioral safety program by providing coaching and support to site personnel.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment towards environmental standards, guidelines, and procedures.
- Inform on/verify adherence to site specific environmental protection measures (e.g., waste management, wildlife protection, use/handling of substances hazardous to environment).
- Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background
- Recognizable qualification in HSE (e.g., NEBOSH or equivalent) – Level 6 preferred.
- Extensive international experience in a Site HSE Manager role in a project business of similar size/complexity or other similar proven capacity.
- Fluent in English (Verbal and Written).
- Conversant with ISO 45001 (Internal Auditor Training certification in ISO 45001 will be advantageous).
- Formal Incident Investigation Training.
- Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required.
