As Senior Commissioning Engineer within our Grid & Power Quality Solutions Service business, you play a key role in ensuring the safe and compliant commissioning of low voltage electrical systems. This position is responsible for the authorisation and management of low voltage work permits, upholding stringent Environmental, Health, Safety (EHS) and Quality Assurance (QA) standards throughout the commissioning process, and acting as a key point of contact for safety and quality compliance on site.
Location: Remote with occasional visits to Birmingham office and client locations UK/ EU as required. 50% travel.
Responsibilities- Review, authorise, and issue Low Voltage (LV) work permits in accordance with company policies, project specific procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to verify compliance with permit conditions and safe work practices.
- Support the development and implementation of EHS plans and procedures relevant to LV commissioning activities.
- Investigate EHS incidents, near misses, and non-conformities, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Conduct EHS inductions and toolbox talks for personnel working under LV permits.
- Stay updated on relevant EHS legislation, standards, and best practices.
- Verify that commissioning activities adhere to specified quality standards, project specifications, and Hitachi's quality management system.
- Participate in quality audits and inspections to ensure proper documentation, testing, and verification of LV systems.
- Identify and report any quality deviations, ensuring appropriate resolutions are implemented during project execution.
- Promote a strong safety culture among commissioning teams and contractors.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive EHS and QA documentation related to LV commissioning.
- Generate regular reports on permit status, EHS performance, and quality metrics.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, commissioning engineers, site supervisors, and external stakeholders regarding safety and quality matters.
- Provide guidance and training to personnel on safe work practices, permit procedures, and EHS/QA requirements.
- Act as a subject matter expert for LV safety protocols.
- Proven engineering background with a degree (or equivalent).
- Experience in EHS, QA, or commissioning roles, with a strong focus on low voltage electrical systems.
- Previous experience in commissioning and troubleshooting gas turbines or similar equipment.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical safety regulations, standards (e.g., IEC, BS EN), and best practices for LV systems.
- Relevant certifications in EHS (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) are highly desirable.
- Certification as an Authorized Person (AP) for Low Voltage systems is essential.
- Excellent customer focus and communication skills, with the ability to manage teams in diverse geographical locations.
- Flexibility to travel as needed and the ability to mobilise on short notice.
