Hitachi Energy has an exciting opportunity for HVDC Service Engineer, reporting to the Project Manager you will be responsible for working at the Caithness Moray Shetland (CMS) HVDC Link and other Hitachi Energy HVDC customer sites throughout the UK and Ireland but primarily Spittal HVDC Converter Station located in the Caithness area of Scotland.

Your main duties will be to provide 1st line support along with maintenance & repair services for the CMS Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA). You will work closely with the existing Service Team to gain the competencies to provide 1st line support. Flexible working hours will also be required for significant maintenance tasks on an impromptu basis as required. There will also be the requirement to support the wider HVDC team as and when requested by the needs of the business for tasks such as unplanned and planned outages, ad hoc standby coverage and tasks in line with the individual's skillset.

  • To deliver maintenance & repair services to the CMS link.
  • Deliver exceptionally high availability to the entire CMS system.
  • Control and perform work activities on HV/LV electrical, instrumentation and mechanical systems.
  • Maintain the value and maximize the design life of the system.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with this valued customer.
  • To maintain a safe working environment for all site employees & mitigate the risks.
  • Ensure ethical behaviour in line with code of conduct.
  • Manage Health Safety and Environmental risks associated with the business unit.
  • Be part of the environment that allows all employees to develop and succeed.

Your Background:

  • A base location within 120-minute drive of Spittal HVDC Converter Station, by Halkirk, Spittal, KW12 6XA is a mandatory requirement.
  • Relevant trade qualifications in an engineering discipline e.g. electrician, instrumentation technician etc.
  • HV (>132kV) substation experience (Other High Voltage ranges considered).
  • Maintenance / fault finding experience with items of High Voltage equipment.
  • Maintenance / fault finding experience with LV and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in delivering technical reports and fault analysis.
  • Experience working with maintenance management systems and completing all customer fault reports & commissioning documentation where required in a timely manner.
  • An ability to work under pressure and on your own initiative.
  • MS Office skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
  • Fluent written & spoken English.
  • A good working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations along with a relevant qualification. E.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, CSCS.
  • Driving license.

Beneficial / Advantageous:

  • Undergraduate Engineering degree experience in HV power systems.
  • Experience in HV power systems or a heavy industrial environment.
  • High Voltage DC experience.
  • Safety switching experience.
  • Power plant operational experience.
  • NEBOSH, National general certificate in occupational health and safety.
  • Impressed voltage awareness.
  • Previous electrical / mechanical authorisations. (Person, CP, AP, SAP)
  • HNC or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline.
  • Previous demonstratable experience providing safety from the system and safe systems of work.
  • Maintenance / fault finding experience with UPS systems, Battery Chargers, Air Handling Units, Pumps, PLCs & Generators.
  • Fire detection and protection system awareness / maintenance experience.
  • Maintenance / fault finding experience with SCADA / PLCs and control systems.
  • Offshore working qualifications such as HUET, GWOs, BOSIET etc.
