The opportunity
As a Control & Protection Electrical Hardware Design Engineer within Hitachi Energy’s HVDC, you will be responsible for designing our control cabinet layout, which includes hundreds of circuit boards for measurements, control, and calculations. Our system also incorporates user interfaces such as HMI (Human Machine Interface), diagnostic tools, IT (Information Technology) infrastructure, and IT security. We utilize our in-house developed real-time platform, MACH, to meet the power industry’s standards. This role offers the opportunity to travel abroad and participate in building some of our many power stations around the world.
This is a hybrid working role 3 days in our Glasgow offices remaining working from home office. Please note we are not able to provide visa support.
How you’ll make an impact
- Cubicle Design & Integration: Design cubicles and integrate all hardware components.
- Documentation: Create Bill of Materials, terminal diagrams, cable lists, and termination schedules.
- Coordination & Inspection: Coordinate with cubicle manufacturers and perform inspections.
- Design Preparation: Prepare design specifications, overview diagrams, and concept clarifications.
- Design Review: Participate in or lead design review meetings to identify and correct errors.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Discuss with other departments to prepare the division of works.
- Validation: Validate design drawings/documents from sub-suppliers to meet specifications.
- Support & Collaboration: Provide support during tests and commissioning, and collaborate with customers and colleagues.
Your background
- Educational Background: You possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant technical field.
- Professional Experience: You have prior experience with HVDC projects and at least three years of work experience in the UK.
- Technical Expertise: You have strong knowledge in control and protection panel design (CRP).
- Additional Skills: Site experience in control and protection testing and commissioning is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with CAD tools for control systems, such as Engineering Base or Ruplan, is highly valued.
- Specialized Knowledge: Having EMC knowledge or experience with AC sub-stations and control systems is considered a plus.
