The opportunity: Hitachi Energy is hiring a Project Manager, Engineering to join the team. This role supports coordination of design activities, documentation and diagrams, and collaboration with tendering to ensure safe, robust, and optimal designs and documentation. Onsite presence is required in Birmingham 2/3 days per month or as required by the business. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the design team across all disciplines and interface with project management on engineering budgets, providing forecast cost to complete estimates and justification for changes in expenditure.
- Manage the programme and liaise with planning engineers for design, providing forecasts for completion and resource planning.
- Approve documentation in accordance with contractual requirements of the project.
- Coordinate and chair design reviews and hazard reviews; identify and manage additional risks across functions that may not be evident to individual designers.
- Evaluate risks and opportunities and strategize mitigation; support overall project risk and opportunity assessments and action implementation.
- Undertake the Principal Designer Representative role on projects and work with customers to shape and deliver solutions, seeking feedback to drive improvements.
- Oversee the creation of subcontracts and manage subcontractors jointly with other functions, including supply chain management.
Background / Qualifications
- 5 years electricity supply industry experience.
- Knowledge of Transmission or Distribution practices (400 kV to 11 kV).
- HNC/HND in electrical engineering or equivalent.
- Good teamwork, analytical and communication skills.
- Capable of working to tight time scales and possessing commercial acumen.
- Understanding/Knowledge of Distribution Network Operator / National Grid standards and drawing practices.
