This role focuses on managing and delivering civil engineering works within Hitachi Energy’s Grid & Power Quality Solutions and Service business in Europe.

Responsibilities

  • Manage civil engineering tendering: reviewing client ITTs, developing strategies, producing scope of works.
  • Engage consultants and contractors through the Supply Chain Management function.
  • Coordinate the production of tender deliverables.
  • Identify key risks and opportunities, develop mitigating actions, and ensure adequate provisions are made.
  • Undertake due diligence on documentation prior to client contract signing.
  • Assess, qualify, and align supplier quotations.
  • Assist supply chain and commercial functions in drafting subcontracts (predominantly NEC3).
  • Support Project Management in identifying Early Warning Notifications (EWNs) to customers and developing Compensation Event submissions where required.
  • Review subcontractor EWNs and consequential Compensation Events, implementing mitigating measures where appropriate.
  • Review external civil designs to ensure specification compliance, SHESQ, constructability and value are considered.
  • Ensure external designers implement client and HITACHI technical and procedural requirements.
  • Offer expertise in client specifications, procedures, design codes and industry best practice.
  • Develop and lead initiatives for improvements and efficiencies in civil delivery.
  • Undertake Civil Project Engineer duties on specific schemes where required.
  • Overall responsibility for the unit’s management of Temporary Works and compliance to BS 5975 and customer processes, including enacting the role of the Designated Individual.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Chartered status with ICE, IStructE or CIOB.
  • Minimum five years’ experience within the T&D sector.
  • Experience in a civil design environment.
  • Experience in work‑winning, including risk identification and mitigation.
  • Good teamwork, analytical and communication skills.
  • Capable of working to tight time scales.
