As a Commissioning Engineer, Gas Insulated Switchgear, you will play a vital role in strengthening the UK’s energy network. In this critical position, you’ll ensure the safe, timely testing and commissioning of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) across the UK—helping deliver reliable energy solutions that keep the country moving.
After a comprehensive training program, you’ll take ownership of projects, ensuring customer satisfaction and optimal results in line with Hitachi Energy’s world‑class standards.
How you’ll make an impact- Take ownership of the coordination and execution of on‑site testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities by ensuring functionality and measurements are in accordance with the specifications.
- Use your working knowledge of Gas Insulated Switchgear to make informed decisions on technical matters.
- Proactively collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects/services are safely and successfully delivered.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and implement necessary quality assurance measures to minimize project risks.
- Build relationships with our customers, pursue new business opportunities, and ensure a high level of satisfaction.
- Prepare field‑related reports, protocols, and updates on site progress.

- BSc/BEng in electrical engineering or HNC equivalent with demonstrable experience.
- Experience in testing and commissioning Medium Voltage (MV) /High Voltage (HV) switchgear and use of associated equipment.
- Certification in GIS commissioning is desirable (Technical training is provided).
- Analytical and proactive problem‑solving skills to handle project challenges.
- High attention to detail and focus on handing over safe and reliable switchgear.
- Good communication skills, ability to communicate at all levels.
