We are adding a Senior Bid Manager to our dynamic, fast growing team. Reporting to the Tendering Manager, the Senior Bid Manager will own the full lifecycle from bid preparation, estimations, quotations based on customer specifications or requirements in order to achieve both market competitiveness and margin for the Company. You will work directly with a Tendering Associate and Specialist to ensure efficiency. In this role you will have the ability to present bid strategies to senior stakeholders and support commercial discussions.

Location: Birmingham (Remote) with travel to UK sites. Please note we are unable to provide visa support for this position.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Support the Business Development and Country Sales Organisation to support the development of Client design and specifications.
  • Creation of Budget Proposals based on own Development of Specifications and Designs.
  • Evaluation of client enquiry documentation and interpretation of their requirements, and assessment of commercial terms and conditions.
  • Formulate competitive bids/estimates/quotations, considering the best available product mix and appropriate technical and commercial considerations for each individual situation.
  • Manage the preparation of all technical, financial, cash flow and operational delivery aspects of the bid/estimate/quotation, indicating prices and trading conditions.
  • Identify potential risks and opportunities in contract agreements across customers/channels.
  • Identify potential vendors for equipment and materials required in the project and evaluate supplier offers to match with specifications in collaboration with Supply Chain Management.
  • Establish and maintain effective customer relationships to understand customer needs.
  • Provide any necessary technical support to Sales Managers during meetings with customers.
  • Work across different business streams, cultures and countries. Your success will depend heavily on your ability to network and build relationships with people from all parts of the organization, UK and overseas.
  • Managing and driving your Bid Team to deliver a quality proposal to clients on time and to budget.
  • Develop and Identify client requirements, liaising with internal and external suppliers with close liaison with Sales, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Planning, Engineering and Commercial functions.
  • Assist in the Implementation and promotion of all Hitachi’s policies and procedures for Sales and Tendering.
  • Develop and obtain the governance approval (risk review) in accordance with Hitachi policies.
  • Interface with the client’s team with respect to technical requirements, commercial, contract administration, quantitative risk analysis, agreement of deviations assumptions and waivers.
  • Provide ongoing support to the customer by chairing meetings, taking ownership and responding to all Pre and Post Tender questions, preparing presentations and carrying out contract negotiations.

Your Background:

  • Proven experience in Bid/Tendering Management, Project Engineering, Business development & sales is essential.
  • Recognised engineering qualification minimum HNC.
  • Industry Sector knowledge required in HV (400kV–132kV) and MV (66kV-11kV) knowledge and Industrial, Datacentre, Renewables, Power Quality and substation design experience.
  • Experience within the energy sector - Transmission & Distribution desired.
  • Experience of Contract terms and conditions, NEC3/4, FIDIC beneficial.
  • Team leader experience – coaching & developing.
