The role of Gardener is to provide a high standard of horticultural maintenance in the gardens and landscapes belonging to HRP, ensuring a safe working environment, engaging with visitors, and guiding team members when required. The Gardener will work primarily in the formal ‘South’ gardens, caring for a wide range of plants, formal garden features and other planting styles, and operating a range of horticultural machinery and equipment. The role requires confidence working independently or as part of a team and an interest in historic gardens, sustainable gardening, and delivering customer service in keeping with our royal standards.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-standard horticultural maintenance for HRP gardens and landscapes
- Maintain a safe working environment
- Engage with visitors, delivering friendly and informative service
- Assist or guide team members when required
- Interpret historic gardens for the wider public, providing sympathetic upkeep and interpretation in line with royal standards
Qualifications
- Recognised horticultural qualification at RHS Level 2 or equivalent
- Demonstrable professional horticultural gardening experience, ideally within a public garden
- Knowledge of a wide range of plants, formal garden features and other planting styles
- Experience using a range of horticultural machinery and equipment
- Confidence working independently or as a team
- Interest in historic gardens and sustainable gardening in a historic setting
- A NPTC spraying certificate (desirable)
- Driver’s licence (desirable)
