Project Assistant Curator (Fixed-Term)

Historic Royal Palaces is planning a fashion exhibition for summer 2027. The exhibition will explore royal dress over the centuries, drawing on HRP’s Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection. We are looking for a part-time (0.60 FTE / 3 days a week) Assistant Curator to support the Curator in the research and curatorial administration of the exhibition, working with the curator and colleagues in Interpretation & Design to develop the exhibition themes and object list. The role will also provide day-to-day support in the care, maintenance, and administration of the core dress collection, providing access to the collection, answering enquiries and supporting documentation amongst other ad hoc duties.

Responsibilities

You will have some experience of working or studying in an area of history, fashion, textiles, curating, museums or heritage. You will be highly organized, with good attention to detail, and an ability to work as part of a team and by yourself when necessary. You will be able to use your knowledge and experience to research histories relating to royal and court clothing. You will be able to collaborate to share your knowledge in a generous and accessible way to communicate it to exhibition visitors and offsite audiences. To support the day-to-day management of the collection you will be able to undertake manual handling and be able to handle museum objects safely to facilitate public access to the collection. You will be able to use digital systems to catalogue and manage the collection, and be able to communicate with external enquirers, visitors, donors and vendors to the collection. You will be able to have the flexibility to support the curator of the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection with day-to-day and admin tasks as needed.
