Would you relish the opportunity to maintain one of the most iconic landmarks in the UK? As Maintenance & Facilities Manager for the Tower of London, you will be responsible for leading and managing the maintenance operation at this unique visitor attraction and World Heritage site.
As a member of the Tower Operations Team, you will need to have prior experience working at a senior level and be able to demonstrate an ability to employ strategic foresight with a decisive commanding authority. With responsibility for the upkeep and conservation of the building fabric and the upgrade and improvement of the M&F services and plant, you will need to demonstrate prior experience managing a maintenance service and team in an estate of complex and diverse buildings. Ideally your current or prior experience will have involved working within a historic environment.
You will also need to work strategically to ensure planned routine maintenance is scheduled effectively and establish a highly organised reactive service, ensuring legal compliance across the estate. To achieve this, you will need to review and update processes and policy, as well as plan for programmes of larger minor maintenance works.
You will be responsible for and need to demonstrate prior experience line managing and motivating a small maintenance team and a range of external contractor contracts in a high pressure environment. From time to time, you will also act as project manager, effectively undertaking larger maintenance projects and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
You will be an experienced building professional who is educated to degree standard (and/or with a similar professional qualification) with comprehensive all-round technical knowledge and competence. To be successful in this role, you will need to evidence outstanding communication and people skills, to establish excellent relationships with (Tower) residents and external stakeholders, have exacting budgetary control and an enthusiasm for sustainability to meet our net zero challenge.
This role forms part of the Tower of London Duty Governor rota, providing first-response operational cover on a 24-hour duty basis. Postholders are required to reside on site during duty periods, which include evenings, weekends, and bank holidays on a rotational basis (up to 70 shifts per year - negotiable).
