Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) is the independent charity that cares for six of the world’s most iconic palaces – the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, the Banqueting House, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace, and Hillsborough Castle. We preserve these historic sites and share their stories with millions of people, inspiring audiences through creativity, innovation and world‑class experiences.

Our podcast, the Historic Royal Palaces Podcast, is a chart‑hitting history series that unpacks British royal history in a way that brings the past to life. Every fortnight, historians and experts unlock the secrets of the monarchs you think you know and reveal the forgotten lives of people you’ve never heard of. From dramatic events to intimate human stories, we explore how history shapes us and how our palaces continue to come alive today.

As Digital Producer (Podcast), you will support HRP’s ambition to reach and engage a broader audience, nationally and internationally, with compelling audio storytelling that brings our palaces' history to life. You will lead the research, development, production and commissioning of high‑quality episodes, while managing our cross‑platform publishing schedule. You will also lead the development of video podcast releases on YouTube, expanding the reach and engagement of our audio content.

Responsibilities
  • Research and synthesize historical content, turning it into engaging podcast concepts.
  • Oversee studio and on‑location recordings at historic sites and manage all production phases – scripting, recording, editing and delivery.
  • Create and manage the publication calendar across platforms, coordinating with cross‑functional teams.
  • Commission external partners to produce content where appropriate.
  • Use data insights to maximise audience reach, discoverability and engagement through platform best practices.
  • Produce complementary video content for YouTube related to the podcast series.
Qualifications
  • At least five years of professional experience in podcast and/or audio production.
  • Strong editorial expertise and production management skills.
  • Confidence in researching history topics using reputable publications and subject‑matter experts.
  • Experience commissioning production partners to create content is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of podcast platforms, metadata and discoverability.
  • Knowledge of video podcasting is encouraged.
  • Creative spark and passion for British history, with a keen eye for detail.
