As Creative Producer, you will be part of the Public Engagement (PE) team at Hillsborough Castle and Gardens (HCG) developing and delivering high quality visit-driving programming that creates the motivation to visit and re-visit for social families and wider audiences. You will work with us to grow, build and innovate family programmes that engage audiences in Hillsborough’s stories and beautiful gardens, including brand partnership Easter trails, summer interactive installations through the gardens, Halloween, Christmas, and family workshops throughout the year.
Using your expertise in engaging children and young people in the arts/heritage/natural heritage or outdoor learning sectors, you will work closely with the Public Engagement Manager and wider Hillsborough team to create, deliver and manage imaginative programmes and projects. These will be designed to be inclusive and meet the needs and interests of children, young people and their families. In order to do this, you will need to take an audience-focused approach in developing distinctive content that delights, surprises and engages participants.
You will have responsibility for the set-up, planning, development and management of large scale experiences running over longer periods as well as activity programmes, hands-on workshops, tours, trails and events for families. You will take pride in creating unique and memorable experiences that go beyond the ordinary, surprising and inspiring our audiences. This includes the management and delivery of the ‘families’ strand of the ‘Wild About Wellbeing’ garden and associated activity programme. You will be responsible for developing trails, resources and activities that support wellbeing and encourage families to have fun, learn about and spend time in nature.
To Be Successful In This Role You Will
- be passionate about engaging children and young people with heritage and nature
- have substantial experience in developing and delivering content for children, young people and their families, ideally in the arts/heritage/natural heritage or outdoor learning sectors
- have excellent design judgement, creative flair, and an eye for detail.
- be an innovator who looks for ideas and inspiration beyond their area of expertise when developing ideas and ways of working.
- have previous experience of and enthusiasm for working collaboratively with external partners and freelance practitioners/contractors to design and develop experiences, resources and activity programmes for family audiences.
- have experience coordinating and supervising contractors during installation periods,
- be an effective advocate for the audience and for our work, with the ability to inspire a wide-range of stakeholders and convince them of its value.
- thrive on being part of a team, working on multiple projects simultaneously
- be highly organised with an ability to manage multiple stakeholders and complex projects to the required standards, on time and on budget.
- have previous project and budget management experience.
- have an understanding of risk management, health and safety and safeguarding, so that projects and programmes are delivered safely.
- be a real self starter, able to work independently generating ideas and problem solving as well as proactively contributing to teamwork.
- be able to set objectives and evaluate against them, refining the programmes you work on and improving them for future years.
- have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and know how to build and foster relationships, with a willingness to work collaboratively, take on feedback and support activities across Public Engagement and the wider Hillsborough team
- be flexible with the ability to work some evenings and weekends, for which you will receive time off in lieu.
- be IT literate and a competent user of word, excel, and outlook.
Previous experience of developing ‘well-being’ activities and an understanding of the wellbeing benefits of engaging in arts, heritage and nature-based learning activities is desirable.

Salary: £42,184 per annum

We have adopted a hybrid model of part working from home and part working from site, we are open to discussing what best works for individuals and their work life balance whilst also delivering the business requirements. This role will usually be expected to work on site at least 3 days a week and more frequently during installation periods, at which point some out of hours work may also be required.
